Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has committed to supporting the governor-elect of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, by providing development frameworks that have been instrumental in the progress of Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu made this promise during a courtesy visit from Mr. Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, at the Lagos House, Marina, on Saturday.
“I want to assure you that you are not the first that Lagos will be supporting in terms of development templates. There is nothing wrong with copying; you just need to copy well,” Sanwo-Olu remarked, signaling his readiness to share proven strategies that have driven Lagos forward.
The Lagos governor also pledged access to the state’s agencies, which could offer valuable insights to Edo’s incoming administration. “We will make all of our agencies that you believe will speak to the needs of Edo available to you,” Sanwo-Olu affirmed, emphasizing the collaborative approach.
Sanwo-Olu further noted that Lagos was eager to provide ideas that would help transform Edo. “We are happy that you have used Lagos as your starting point to receive blessings and to acknowledge the small support that we gave,” he stated, urging all political stakeholders in Edo to unite for the state’s development.
“Other contestants should come together and work with you so that you can develop Edo. I believe that is the right thing to say and the right thing to do.”
Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in Okpebholo’s leadership, stating, “We saw during our visit that the state can be a lot better, and we believe you have a big heart to transform the state.”
In response, Mr. Okpebholo expressed gratitude to Sanwo-Olu for his guidance and assistance during the election, particularly appreciating the strategic insights shared. He reiterated his commitment to working for the betterment of Edo State and called on his political opponents to collaborate for the common good.
“By the grace of God and the support of the good people of Edo State, we will work to make the lives of our people better. I call on other contestants to join hands with me so we can give our people a brighter future,” the governor-elect declared.
Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, emerged victorious over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.
