Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged to implement the new minimum wage approved by the Federal Government.
He made the commitment during the Workers’ Day celebration at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
The Governor praised workers for their contributions to the state’s development, saying his administration will prioritize their welfare.
He also advised residents against panic buying and storage of petrol, assuring them that the Federal Government and oil sector stakeholders are working to end the fuel scarcity.
Sanwo-Olu promised to consider demands from various unions, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
He commended workers for their dedication and resilience, saying his administration will continue to ensure good welfare packages for all workers.
NLC and TUC leaders, Comrades Agnes Funmi Sessi and Gbenga Ekundayo, praised Sanwo-Olu for prioritizing workers’ welfare and urged him to implement the agreed minimum wage.
They commended his administration’s interventions, including reduced BRT transportation costs, discounted food marts, and prompt salary payments.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, and Head of Service, Bode Agoro, also praised the Governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare and empowerment.
Over 50 unions from different sectors participated in the May Day celebration, which highlighted the importance of prioritizing workers’ welfare and prosperity.
