Sanwo-Olu Charges Enforcement Officers To Uphold The Rule Of Law

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has directed Law Enforcement Officers in the State to be firm in enforcing the law and demonstrate professionalism and civility in the way and manner they relate with citizens.

Speaking today at the Year 2022 Passing Out Parade of another batch of Enforcement Officers from the Lagos State Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI), the Governor added that his administration is irrevocably committed to upholding the tenets of the rule of law and will not condone any form of harassment, arbitrariness, extortion from any of its Law Enforcement Officers.

Sanwo-Olu, represented at the event by the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, urged Lagosians to continue to be law-abiding by supporting officers of the State Enforcement Agencies in the task of keeping Lagos State Safe.

The Governor noted that Enforcement Officers are expected to be guided by the knowledge and experience that they have gained from the training which spanned a period of three months where they were tutored on professionalism, ethics, values, integrity, honesty, respect and compassion, all of which are critical to the effective and efficient discharge of their responsibilities.

He added that his administration will continue to strengthen the capacity of its Enforcement Officers with the appropriate equipment, to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness.

Sanwo-Olu reiterated that the passing out parade demonstrates his administration’s commitment to upgrading the capacity of the officers who are daily confronted with diverse issues and challenges in the course of carrying out their lawful duties, especially in the areas of Traffic Management, maintaining discipline, ensuring safety and security in different communities of the State.

Earlier in his remarks, the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN, who was represented by the Director of Advisory Services, Ministry of Justice, Mr. Saheed Quadri, urged the Officers to show allegiance to what is right and conform to a standard of conduct that shows their true worth.

He averred that the officers must do their part to elevate Lagos State to a new height. “We must preserve the environment, uphold the law, always speak out for justice and sow the seeds of peace”.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Chief Executive Officer/Head of the Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI), Mrs. Abiola Adeyinka stated that the training is important and necessary because it represents a good opportunity and privilege for staff to grow their knowledge base and improve their skillsets to become more effective and efficient at the workplace.

She submitted that the passing out parade indicated the completion of the three-month, Year 2022 Mandatory in-service Training for 8,000 Officers of the Enforcement Cadre in the State namely; Vehicles Inspection Services (VIS), Lagos Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Kick Against of Indiscipline (KAI) and Lagos State Neighbourhood Security Agency (LNSA).
