The Rotary Club of Rock City Abeokuta, under the leadership of President Rotarian Henry Adedokun, has officially launched its annual Family Health Week, aimed at delivering vital healthcare services to underserved communities.

The initiative commenced on Friday, focusing on critical health screenings for malaria, HIV, and prostate cancer.

Speaking to members of the Association of Professional Printers of Nigeria and other local residents at their NEPA Road headquarters in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Adedokun highlighted the outreach’s focus on accessible healthcare, especially for those who rarely have time or resources for medical check-ups.

He noted, “We understand that many artisans and local residents often overlook health check-ups due to their busy schedules and the challenging economic situation. Through this outreach, we’re able to bring these vital services directly to them.”

The exercise offers a comprehensive array of medical services, including blood pressure checks, hepatitis screenings, eye examinations, and general medical counseling.

The initiative also provides free distribution of treated mosquito nets to pregnant women, sanitary pads for young ladies, and both male and female condoms as part of its community health support.

Rotarian Adedokun further elaborated on Rotary’s commitment to public health, noting, “Our medical outreach is vital, and it’s something the government alone cannot achieve. It’s our duty as a community to support efforts that promote health and wellness.”

He added that the Rotary Club had equipped the event with over 200 medical materials, with dedicated sections for consultations, testing, and medication distribution.

District Governor, Rtn. Dr. Oluwole Kukoyi, also attended the event, expressed pride in the Rotary Club’s commitment to health.

“I’m thrilled to see Rotary Club of Rock City leading this impactful exercise. Prioritizing health truly enriches our lives and enhances our daily productivity,” he said.

Community members, touched by the effort, shared their appreciation. Mr. Samuel Olumide, a local carpenter, expressed relief at the opportunity to undergo medical checks.

“This is a blessing for people like us who rarely find time to visit the hospital. Knowing that I’m in good health is a huge relief,” he remarked.

Similarly, Madam Bola Akanbi, an elderly woman, was grateful for the screenings, saying, “At my age, issues like blood pressure and vision need close attention. Rotary Club has shown us they care, and that reassurance is a gift.”

Rotarian Adedokun emphasized that the Family Health Week will continue reaching over 200 individuals in Abeokuta, underscoring the club’s ongoing dedication to community welfare through health-focused initiatives.
