Ile-Ife, Nigeria – A sudden and intense rainstorm caused the roof of Obafemi Awolowo University’s amphitheater to collapse during a class session, resulting in four students being injured.
According to eyewitnesses, a strong whirlwind caused the covering inside the amphitheater to collapse, leaving students in a state of shock.
The injured students were initially taken to Seventh Day Adventist Hospital but were later transferred to OAUTHC for further medical attention.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor has visited the injured students and expressed concern for their well-being.
An investigation into the incident is currently underway to determine the cause of the collapse and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
The university community is in shock and students are calling for improved infrastructure and safety measures to prevent such incidents.
