Napoli has confirmed the signing of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, marking the end of his second spell at Chelsea.
Lukaku’s return to Chelsea in 2021 was followed by two consecutive loan stints at Inter Milan and Roma, respectively.
Lukaku reunites with Napoli manager Antonio Conte, with whom he achieved significant success at Inter Milan, scoring 47 goals in 72 Serie A games and winning the 2020-21 Serie A title.
However, his return to Chelsea failed to yield similar results, with only eight Premier League goals in his first season.
Last season, Lukaku scored 13 league goals for Roma and added seven more in their Europa League semifinal run.
The Belgian striker boasts an impressive record, emerging from Anderlecht to play for top-tier clubs like Manchester United, Everton, and Chelsea. He is Belgium’s all-time leading scorer with 85 goals in 119 appearances.
Chelsea’s decision to let Lukaku go aligns with their efforts to trim their squad before the transfer window closes, following the arrival of new players.
Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell are among the senior players deemed surplus to requirements by manager Enzo Maresca.
