Abuja, Nigeria – The House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence has recommended the purchase of new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The recommendation comes after an investigation into the status of the aircraft in the presidential air fleet, which revealed that only a few are in good condition.
The committee’s report states that procuring additional aircraft will provide a safe carrier for the president and vice president, considering the “fragile structure of the Nigerian federation” and potential consequences of technical or operational issues.
The recommendation has sparked debate, with some lawmakers suggesting that the president and vice president travel via commercial aircraft or by road.
However, the committee argues that the purchase will be cost-efficient in the long run and provide a suitable, comfortable, and safe carrier befitting the status and responsibilities of the office.
The House of Representatives will review the recommendation and make a final decision on the matter.
