First Lady Remi Tinubu has expressed concern over the persistent challenges faced by many girls in accessing their fundamental rights, despite notable progress.

In her message marking the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child, Senator Tinubu emphasized that substantial efforts are still required to ensure equal opportunities for every girl.

Highlighting the pivotal role of education, she referred to it as “the bedrock of a future where girls can grow without limits” and called for sustained investment in girls’ education.

According to her, this investment should start at home by instilling values of self-worth and dignity, which would empower girls with the confidence and skills to overcome future challenges.

In her statement, Senator Tinubu said, “I join in the celebration of the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child. The theme for this year, ‘Girls’ Vision for the Future,’ is very apt. Every girl should be able to dream of a future where she can grow without limits. Education is the bedrock of that future.”

She stressed the importance of providing the right support and resources to unlock the potential of over 1.1 billion girls worldwide, adding, “As a nation, we have come a long way in ensuring the education of the girl-child. An educated girl-child is a transformed woman. She will be able to make informed choices about her health and well-being.”

The First Lady also pointed out the far-reaching effects of empowering girls, noting, “When girls lead, the impact is immediate and far-reaching, touching families, communities, and ultimately economies.”

While acknowledging progress, she lamented that “too many girls are still denied their rights, restricting their choices and limiting their futures.”

She charged Nigerian girls to “be strong, confident, and determined in their resolve to push for the limitless opportunities that abound.”

In closing, Senator Tinubu offered an inspiring message to all girls, saying, “I salute the Girl Child. Keep hope alive and nurture your dreams; the future is promising. I celebrate you. Happy International Day of the Girl Child.”
