A female journalist with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Paramount FM, Abeokuta in Ogun State, Mrs. Oluremi Olugbenro has emerged the first female Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council.

Olugbenro was returned elected unopposed by the NUJ Screening and Credentials committee that conducted the election.

The NUJ National headquarters in a statement issued in Abuja by the Senior Assistant National Secretary, Mr. Gbemiga Bamidele and dated 18th November, 2019 approved the report of the Ogun state Screening and Credentials committee and declared Olugbenro and six others as duly elected.

Those who also made the list are; Mr. Olanrewaju Daud, Vice Chairman, Adigun Bunmi, Secretary and Fakeye Simon, Assistant Secretary.

The newly elected Treasurer is Mr Anthony Gandonu, while Oyebade Adegoke is the Financial Secretary and Mr Lawal Abiodun is the Internal Auditor.

Chairman of the Screening and Credentials committee, Mr Lanre Ogunyinka while speaking on the outcome of the election said only seven forms were sold and retuned to the committee for screening.

He said the seven candidates were all returned unopposed and elected which was approved by the NUJ headquarters.

Meanwhile, it was celebration galore at the Iwe Iroyin Press Centre State Council Secretariat of the Ogun NUJ following the election as members continued to applaud the outcome of the election which they described as historic.
