In the past months, the people of Oyo State state has been going through unpalatable experience due to the decline in security of lives and properties in the state as people have continued to attribute the decline with the proscription of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
For some days now residents and shop owners in Ore meji , Idi – Obi, Agugu, ilupeju etc in Ibadan metropolis were unable to sleep with their two eyes closed and heads on pillow as it has continued to witness attack from unscrupulous miscreants and hoodlums.
These areas has been recently tormented by gun men, motorcycle snatching from Okada men and vowed to kill them if they argue, robs shops and the likes.
Mr Ola, one of the victims, who sells phone accessories and phone charging points around Idi – Obi said that on 29th September 2019 around 8pm – 9pm, some men in black, just came to his workshop firing guns to the air and told him to corporate with them or else he would be killed.
Immediately they started packing all phones and batteries meant for his numerous customers as they also went away with cash and snatched an okada from a commercial motorcyclist man to escaped.
We also gathered information that a week before Mr Ola’s incident, a shop was robbed, but since it was the first time such would be happening it gained low attention from residents.
Such incident also occurred few weeks ago around Ore – Meji, some gun men also snatched a motorcycle from an Okada rider which resulted to the killing of his passanger.
Most recently, on Sunday 6th October, 2019, at about 10mins to 9 in the evening around Ilupeju off Idi – Obi road, a man popularly known as Aare was reportedly attacked by unknown gunmen, snatched his motorcycle and shot at him and later died on their way to UCH Ibadan.
From my investigation, many people have started blaming the government on NURTW proscription without providing any other jobs.
So the people, are trying to make life worth living by any means, and this have turned them to become gunmen, robbing shops and snatching of motorcycles in the metropolis.
Dear Governor Seyi Makinde I beseeched you to hear the cry of your people, who elected you into office.
