The university town of Akungba Akoko in the Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State has been rocked with protests following an alleged plot by some individuals to remove the traditional ruler of the town, the Alale of Akungba Akoko, Oba Isaac Sunday Adeyeye.

Residents of the community who kicked against the plot, mostly youths, moved around the community to warn those behind the plot to desist.

The protesters, armed with placards of various inscriptions such as “We Say No To Illegality In Akungba,” “We Love Our King,” “No Court Ordered Removal Of Our King” and “No To Breach Of Peace In Akungba,” vowed to resist any attempt to remove the traditional ruler illegally and strongly expressed their displeasure over the alleged involvement of some indigenes and government officials in the plot.

A community leader, Chief Dele Olowogorioye, who addressed the demonstrators pleaded with all parties involved in the kingship ruckus to maintain the status quo and let peace prevail since the case is already in court. Olowogorioye further noted that the state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, will not permit dishonest individuals to violate the peace in Akungba and the Sunshine State.

Expressing his displeasure over the attempt to cause a breach of peace, the Olusin of Akungba, Chief Gabriel Olaseni said: “We are trusting God for unchallenged peace in Akungba as we enjoin all the parties concerned to eschew violence and breach of peace and painstakingly await the determination of the case at the apex court.”

Meanwhile, Oba Adeyeye who responded by pleading for peace urged the demonstrators to remain peaceful and refrain from taking the law into their hands
