President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep concerns over the news of the devastation wreaked by floods on communities and farmlands across the country.

A statement on Wednesday by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, said that the president was particularly worried about the plight of bereaved families, farmers, displaced communities and those who had lost property.

Recent data by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) indicate that lives have been lost, with thousands of hectares of farmlands damaged and thousands of people displaced by floods across the country.

According to Mr Ngelale, Mr Tinubu re-emphasised the need for concerted efforts to address existential environmental concerns and build a more climate-resilient and adaptive society.

“The president prays for the repose of the souls of the deceased,” Mr Ngelale said.

He quoted the President as assuring Nigerians that his administration, through the relevant agencies, would continue to provide the needed support for victims.

“We will also continue to issue timely warnings to mitigate the impact of environmental mishaps,” the statement further quoted Mr Tinubu as saying.
