A domestic dispute turned deadly in Faram Faram village, Fufore Local Government Area, when a pregnant woman, Maryam, allegedly struck her husband, Patrick John, with a hoe during an altercation.
The incident occurred on June 13, 2024, after Patrick, who had been drinking, objected to Maryam wearing a miniskirt, despite previous disagreements.
The confrontation escalated when Patrick grabbed Maryam by the neck, prompting her to call for help. Neighbors intervened, but the argument resumed, leading Maryam to defend herself with a hoe, striking Patrick on the forehead.
He was rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Maryam was arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Yola, where she pleaded self-defense. Magistrate Musa Alhaji Adamu ordered her remand pending further proceedings, adjourning the case to July 10, 2024.
