Polytechnic Ibadan has achieved a significant milestone with the approval of a community radio station license for REIZ 101.9 FM by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
The academic institution’s achievement was announced by Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi, the Rector of the Polytechnic, who highlighted that the upcoming radio station will focus on enhancing the quality of broadcast journalism.
Adebiyi acknowledged the necessity of this radio venture and applauded Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for his instrumental role and support in bringing the station to life. He emphasized that the station would showcase the substantial development that the state has experienced under Governor Makinde’s leadership.
Dr. Olusoji Olatunji, Secretary of The Polytechnic Ibadan Radio Facilitation Committee, expressed gratitude for the swift response and financial assistance provided by Governor Makinde to expedite the launch of REIZ FM 101.9. He remarked on the historical significance of achieving this feat during the Governor’s tenure.
Olatunji also lauded Governor Makinde’s leadership within the state and the nation, regarding him as a prominent figure in the political landscape. He added that the radio station, also known as REIZ FM 101.9, would be a platform for broadcasting academic programs, particularly in Mass Communication, and various commendable initiatives of the state government.
An institution staff member highlighted the long-awaited nature of the radio station’s establishment, which would elevate the institution’s standing. Adegunju Taiwo, a student from the Department of Mass Communication, praised Polytechnic Ibadan for continually demonstrating its distinction as a forward-thinking institution in Southwest Nigeria, the country, and globally.
He called for a commitment to professionalism in the station’s operations and suggested involving accomplished alumni from the institution.”
