Police officers in Lagos averted a potential tragedy on Friday when they successfully intervened to stop a man from jumping into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge.
The individual, identified as Yemi, a 59-year-old resident of Ilasa, was rescued around noon by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) during their routine patrol.
In a social media statement, the Lagos Police Command disclosed that Yemi had been dealing with personal difficulties, which led him to contemplate suicide.
The swift action by the police ensured that Yemi was stopped before he could leap into the water.
RRS Commander Shola Jejeloye spoke with Yemi after the incident, placing him in protective custody while waiting for his family.
The police emphasized the importance of mental health support, urging the public to seek help during times of crisis.
