Three suspects have been apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) from the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly stealing phones from accident victims on Governor’s Road, Alausa, Ikeja.
The suspects, identified as Isaiah Adegbenro (38), Edet Johnson (30), and Efe Sowemimo (28), were arrested while attempting to flee the scene with the stolen items.
Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests, explaining that the incident occurred when the victims were driving toward Ikeja in a red Toyota Camry 2010.
The vehicle reportedly lost control and struck a road divider near Adeyemi Bero on Governor’s Road.
“The three suspects, who were nearby when the accident happened, chose to ransack the victims’ pockets and vehicle rather than assist the driver and passengers,” Hundeyin revealed.
The police spokesman detailed that the stolen items included an iPhone 15 valued at N1,300,000 and an iPhone 12 worth N620,000.
According to Hundeyin, RRS operatives patrolling the area received an alert and pursued the fleeing suspects, ultimately recovering the stolen iPhones from their possession.
“Following the arrests, RRS operatives assisted the injured victims by transporting them to the hospital and clearing the accident scene to prevent further obstruction,” Hundeyin added.
Hundeyin further stated that the suspects made “significant confessions” and are set to be charged in court in line with directives from the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad, CSP Shola Jejeloye.
