Police hands over sold 5-Month old Baby to mother in Ebonyi

The police in Ebonyi State have handed over a five months old baby who was sold in April 2022 back to his mother.

This is coming five months after the leader of a child trafficking gang identified as Mrs Anna Elechi who paid the sum of five hundred thousand naira to the child’s mother, after family members convinced the baby,s mother that the father of the child has died.

Fielding questions from newsmen at the state police headquarters in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi police public relations officer Chris Anyanwu said the mother of the child Miss Ola Chima sold her child for five hundred thousand naira.

The police spokesperson said the suspected trafficker Mrs Anna Elechi who runs an illegal maternity home in Afikpo North local government area of Ebonyi state bought the child and resold him to another person.

The mother of the child who was remorseful said she was misled to sell the baby, as the father of the baby says he was wrongly pronounced dead with a view to sell his child.

Meanwhile, the police have confirmed the arrest of everyone involved in the selling of the baby.
