The Katsina State Police Command on Saturday, August 17, 2024, successfully foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued seven victims in the state.

Public Public Relations Officer in the state, Sadiq Abubakar, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday said the incident occurred around 11:15 pm when armed bandits blocked the Kukar Babangida Bridge along the Magama-Katsina Road.

The hoodlums, according to Abubakar, attacked a J5 motor vehicle, kidnapping seven occupants before setting the vehicle ablaze.

The Divisional Police Officer of Jibia Divisional Headquarters promptly mobilised a team of police operatives, who collaborated with members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) and vigilantes to respond to the scene.

The team tracked down the suspected kidnappers and engaged them in a fierce gun duel, resulting in the successful rescue of all seven victims.

However, one of the victims sustained a gunshot injury to the shoulder and was rushed to the hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

The statement added that the police are intensifying efforts to arrest the perpetrators and investigate the incident.

The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Abubakar Musa commended the officers’ exceptional display of gallantry and urged the public to continue supporting the command with timely information to combat crime and criminality in the state.
