Rivers State – The Police in Rivers State have arrested a man in his 20s, identified as Honest, for abducting and gang-raping a 14-year-old girl for two days in Erima community, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
The suspect’s brother, Okwukwe, is currently at large. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest and stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has directed the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for thorough investigation.
CP Disu also ordered a manhunt for the fleeing suspect, emphasizing that all perpetrators will face the consequences of their actions in accordance with the law.
The victim was abducted while walking alone and was rescued after a tip-off from a neighbor.
The Second in Command of ONELGA Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Egi Command, Mr. Onuigba Chinonye Aboy, narrated how the crime was busted and warned criminals to change their ways or face arrest and prosecution.
“My advice to other criminals that want to behave this way is that we will also send them to the same place we sent this person if they don’t want to change,” said Mr. Aboy. “If they change, the community will contain us and them. But if they don’t want to change, this community and the entire Egi will not contain the OSPAC and the criminals.”
SP Iringe-Koko added, “The Commissioner of Police has directed that the detained suspect and the case be transferred to SCIID Port Harcourt for thorough investigation. A manhunt has also been ordered for the fleeing suspect, and all perpetrators will face the consequences of their actions in accordance with the law.”
The arrested suspect is currently in custody, and efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
