The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended four suspects allegedly involved in a syndicate specializing in forgery, job racketeering, and impersonation.

In a statement released on Tuesday via X (formerly Twitter), the police said operatives of the IGP-Special Investigation Unit carried out the arrests following intelligence reports and a petition from the Office of the Special Assistant to the President.

The suspects, identified as Khuzaifa Tafida, Zakari Abdullahi, Abdullahi Baba, and Adeyemo Morufu, were accused of forging documents from government agencies to deceive and extort money from unsuspecting job seekers.

“Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their roles in the crime. They admitted to forging documents from several government offices to defraud unsuspecting victims, promising them employment at various federal agencies,” the statement revealed.

Recovered items included forged documents purportedly from the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and the State House in Abuja, stamps, and a sum of ₦1.7 million.

The statement further warned, “Members of the public are advised to be wary of such fraudulent elements and avoid dealing with individuals offering assistance outside of due process.”

Police Foil Kidnapping Attempts Nationwide

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Police successfully thwarted several kidnapping attempts across the country.

In Katsina State, operatives from the Jibia Divisional Headquarters disrupted an abduction along the Magama-Jibia road, engaging bandits in a gun battle and rescuing 14 victims. Two victims sustained gunshot injuries inflicted by the fleeing assailants and were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Similarly, in Kaduna State, police operatives repelled an attempted abduction in Idasu Village, rescuing 89 victims and recovering a locally made AK-47 rifle with five rounds of ammunition.

The police also carried out rescue operations in Lagos, Zamfara, and Delta States, liberating more victims and enhancing public safety.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun praised the operatives for their professionalism and unwavering commitment. He reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to ensuring safety and security nationwide.

“The IGP further reiterates the commitment of the Force towards continual professionalism and dedication to the safety and security of our dear country,” the statement concluded.
