Police arrest 3 suspected kidnappers, as one dies in Delta

Three suspected kidnappers believed to be behind major kidnap cases in Sapele and Ughelli council areas of the state have been arrested by the Delta state police command, as a fourth suspect died on the way to the hospital from gunshot wounds.

This is according to a statement by the state police command spokesperson Edafe Bright made available to our correspondent, saying the suspects were apprehended after collecting a ransom of five million naira from the families of a kidnap victim that was later released.

According to the police, the victim after regaining freedom reported to the police command and the police commissioner CP Olufemi Abaniwonda directed his special squad to investigate and arrest the perpetrators.

The directive was said to have paid off as three of the suspects were arrested in different locations around Sapele town, while the fourth suspect named Joel Ochuko was injured during a gun duel sustained when he led the police to other members of his gang in Ewu community of Ughelli south.
Items recovered from the suspects include one pump action gun and one locally fabricated pump action gun, three locally made cut-to-size guns, one barreta pistol and expended cartridges.

The Delta police commissioner CP Olufemi Abaniwonda warned criminals to steer clear of the state as adequate deployment have been made, as.he assured members of the public to always trust the police and report suspected cases which will be treated with proactive measures and secrecy.
