Former Anambra State Governor and Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, will play crucial and critical roles after Nigeria’s general elections, a former newspaper editor has said.
The ex-Deputy Editor of the defunct Nigerian Compass newspaper on Sunday, Chief Femi Shodunke, stated this in a recent post on a group chat.
According to him, the ex-governor would be involved in the rejuvenation of the most populous country in África.
“Indeed, Peter Obi, under whatever circumstances, has been destined to help in the rejuvenation and revitalization of Nigeria,” Shodunke, who is the Baaroyin of Igbeinland, stressed, adding that “I saw the former governor of Anambra State playing critical and crucial roles, particularly in our environment and housing sectors. Why those two sectors, in particular, I don’t really know.”
He further said: “Indeed, let me make myself clear so that people don’t misunderstand me. I’m not a politician, not a card-carrying member of any political party. And I’m not saying Peter Obi is going to become the next President of Nigeria or not, but he’s been destined to help in rebuilding our great country. How? Everyone will see soon.
“Obviously, I’m not a pastor, imam or any cleric to be candid. But, in my own little ways, God speaks to me in the dream. Therefore, either as President of Nigeria or not, and probably under a National Unity Government that will be formed, Obi is going to participate. Let’s just wait and see, except he’ll decline his participation due to certain factors or conditions displeasing to him.”
Shodunke, a Canada based journalist, emphasized that Nigeria needs dedicated, committed and focused leadership, from the states to the national level, to turn the country around for good, and indeed in the overall best interests of the populace.
While declining to disclose the likely winner of the Presidential election, the former President of Olumo Progressive Association Canada Inc (OPAC) in Toronto, maintained that the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is in the race to win.
“With the preparations made so far, indeed Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a force to be reckoned with in the Presidential race, and I’m sure there will be surprises in this election,” Shodunke, who is popularly called “Oluwo,” stated.
“But, at the end, the leader who will emerge needs the support of everyone to revitalise Nigeria and turn it around towards prosperity,” he further said.
The journalist also urged eligible voters to vote according to their conscience and show patriotism by shuning inducements that may influence their choice of candidates.
“In this election, our brothers and sisters who are to vote should be patriotic. They should shun any inducements, either through promises that may not be true or money, and vote the right and capable candidates who they trust can deliver the dividends of democracy to them,”Shodunke, who publishes GatewayMail online newspaper in Canada, counselled.
