The Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has declared its intent to challenge Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid in the 2026 governorship election, sparking a response from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The NNPP made its position clear during the inauguration of its new offices in Ila, Boripe, and Ifelodun Local Government Areas on Thursday.
Addressing party members at the event in Ila, Osun NNPP Chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the upcoming election, pointing to widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration and the ongoing economic difficulties affecting the nation.
“Our chances of winning Osun State in the 2026 election are very bright. The NNPP has made significant strides since its formation,” Odeyemi stated.
He further criticized the current political climate, saying, “The ongoing economic hardship is eroding the APC’s standing at the national level, while the PDP administration in Osun struggles to showcase governance capacity. This presents a clear opportunity for us to end Adeleke’s reign.”
Odeyemi, accompanied by Ekiti State NNPP Chairman, Edward Ayeni, and Ogun State NNPP Publicity Secretary, Omokehinde Olowu, urged party members to stay committed, assuring them that success was on the horizon.
In response, the Osun chapter of the PDP dismissed the NNPP’s claims, labeling them as mere political posturing. The PDP maintained that Governor Adeleke’s record of achievements would ensure his re-election in 2026.
Oladele Bamiji, the PDP’s Director of Media and Publicity, countered the NNPP’s assertions, telling Tropic Reporters, “The NNPP’s statements are unfounded and are likely motivated by the desire to satisfy their sponsors. They do not have the capacity to prevent Senator Ademola Adeleke’s re-election in 2026. The people of Osun are witnessing unprecedented progress under this administration, and no party can derail this momentum. They should save their resources and energy.”
