…Defends Makinde, Claims APC Sinking Nigeria into Hardship

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a blistering criticism against the All Progressives Congress (APC), labeling it as a “party of political vampires” that exploits Nigerians and revels in creating hardship.

The PDP accused the ruling party of perpetuating economic misery and operating with a mindset to “grab, snatch, and run” with Nigeria’s resources, leaving millions of citizens in poverty and despair.

In a statement signed by PDP National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the opposition party condemned the APC’s recent criticism of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, a PDP leader who has spoken out about the economic challenges Nigerians are facing.

“The attack on Governor Makinde reveals the APC’s insensitivity and arrogance in failure,” the PDP stated, describing the APC as “jittery” over its eroding popularity and an upcoming loss in 2027.

Governor Makinde, the PDP affirmed, stands as a “credible and effective leader” with an impressive record in promoting people-focused development projects.

“Governor Makinde and other PDP governors continue to deliver substantial infrastructure, human capital, and empowerment initiatives that demonstrate what real leadership looks like,” the statement read, underscoring that PDP-led states remain “Oases of Development” compared to their APC counterparts.

The PDP further criticized the APC for claiming Nigeria is “on the cusp of prosperity” despite overwhelming issues of inflation, currency devaluation, and widespread poverty.

“It is an assault on the sensibility of Nigerians that, in the face of worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and a crumbling infrastructure, the APC would live in an alternate reality, painting a picture of progress,” the PDP stated, citing a 36% unemployment rate, food inflation, and an unprecedented cost of living crisis.

According to the PDP, the APC administration has “turned our once economically thriving nation into the poverty capital of the world,” with over 100 million Nigerians unable to afford basic necessities.

They added that under the APC’s “voodoo economy,” the Naira has plunged from N168 to nearly N2,000 per dollar, and the price of essential commodities has skyrocketed, with a bag of rice rising from N8,000 to over N100,000.

The PDP also decried what it called rampant corruption among APC leaders, accusing them of “looting the nation’s treasury to fund their luxury lifestyle” while ordinary Nigerians suffer.

“As we approach 2027, the APC’s tactics have devolved into manipulating data and attacking outspoken Nigerians like Governor Makinde who courageously speak out against this administration’s failures,” the statement read.

PDP however urged the APC to “accept its failure” and recognize that its tenure will come to an end in February 2027, when the PDP and the Nigerian people will “consign it to political oblivion.”

The statement emphasized, “The APC’s time in power is limited, and its legacy of hardship, mismanagement, and failed governance will not be forgotten.”
