Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Mourns the Passing of Former Minister, Prince Ajibola Afonja

Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, has expressed shock and sadness over the death of a former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Prince Ajibola Afonja.

The former minister, who was also a former chairman of First Bank Plc, passed away on Sunday night at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, at the age of 82.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Print Media, Moses Alao, Governor Makinde described Prince Afonja as an illustrious son of Oyo State, who represented and promoted the state with distinction.

He commiserated with the immediate family of the former minister, the people of Oyo town, and the entire state, praying that God grant the soul of the deceased peaceful repose and stand by the family and community he left behind.

“I received the news of the death of Prince Ajibola Afonja with shock and sadness. He was a great ambassador of Oyo State, who made immense contributions to its growth and development. May God grant him Aljana Firdausi,” the governor said.

Prince Afonja’s death is a significant loss to the state and the nation, as he was a respected statesman and a dedicated public servant. His contributions to the development of Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole will be deeply missed and remembered.

The governor’s condolence message is a testament to the high esteem in which Prince Afonja was held, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations. As the state mourns the passing of this great son, may his soul rest in peace and may his family and loved ones find comfort in the knowledge that he lived a life of service and dedication to the nation.

The people of Oyo State will deeply miss Prince Afonja’s wisdom, guidance, and leadership, but his legacy will continue to inspire and motivate them to strive for greatness. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him and may he rest in peace.
