The renewed commitment of the State of Osun to Fire Service has put a heavy responsibility on the Staff of Fire Service unit in the interest of humanity.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola stated this on Thursday at the Commissioning of Fire Service Station in Ejigbo, area of the state.
Governor Oyetola who was flanked by his deputy Mr Benedict Alabi, former speaker of the state Assembly, former minister of
health and the Ogiyan of Ejigbo and some important personalities charged fire staff to ensure regular training of its staff on the
contemporary fire fighting techniques and rapid response and as well educate the people on fire prevention in order to achieve maximum results.
The Governor added that eleven fire service stations with about 14 fire fighting vehicles have been rehabilitated and equipped with fire kits to give confidence to fire fighters in the discharge of their life and property saving duties in addition to provision of Desktop phones and improved welfare package for fire officers.
He announced that about 310 million naira has been expended so far on the fire stations’ project by his administration which is just about 8 months old.
The Governor disclosed that his administration will employ more fire fighters as the number of fire stations increases.
Governor spoke further that “You will all agree with me that security is meaningless without safety. Indeed, the two are Siamese twins in human security needs.
As providers of the two therefore, fire service is germane to having a safe and secure society”.
“In the recognition of this that our administration has decided to reconstruct the Ejigbo fire station which was in dilapidated condition, to enable it to serve this town and its environs”.
“Our administration is committed to its resolve to deliver peace, safety and prosperity to the people. Achieving these goes starts from observing personal and corporate safety. I therefore appeal to us all to take safety precautions seriously and to be our neighbours’ keepers in times of need”, Governor Oyetola advised.
Earlier, the supervisor for home affairs, culture and tourism Dr Adebisi Obawale had enjoined the public to respect fire officers and desist from damaging their vehicles and equipment, as the Government will be forced to commit funds meant for other Social benefits into repairing the damaged fire fighting equipment.
