The governor of Osun State, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola has assured corps members serving in the State of adequate security during the service year. Gboyega who reiterated his support for the scheme in the State, said that measures have been put in place by HIS administration to ensure adequate survellience by security agencies IN order to safeguard lives and properties.
Oyetola made this known when the NYSC Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adewale Adegoke paid a courtesy call on him at the Bola IgeBHouse in Osogbo on Monday 19th August, 2019. Oyetola who recalled his service year in Potiskum, Borno State now in Yobe State, described it as a memorable one noting that ” since the creation of the NYSC during the time of Gowon, it has served a deserved purpose especially in the aspect of uniting Nigerians”. According to him, the NYSC has created a platform through which Nigerians from different divides come together and interact. This according to him “has birthed so many enduring inter-ethnic friendships and marriages. “I have friends who met their spouses during the service year” he added.
Oyetola reiterated his support for the scheme promising to look into the challenges facing the scheme and also to grace the scheme’s ceremonies with his presence whenever he was around. He expressed great delight and appreciation to the management of the scheme for deeming it fit to site the South-West area office in the State of Osun and promised his full- fledged support in ensuring the smooth take off of the area office.
Meanwhile, the State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adewale Adegoke, earlier on, appreciated His Excellency on behalf of the Director General of the scheme, Brig. Gen. Shuiabu Ibrahim, for the regular and prompt payment of the state allowance to corps members serving in the State government ministries and schools.
He further appreciated Mr Governor for his representation at the swearing-in and closing ceremony of the 2019 Batch B stream I orientation course, and hoped for His Excellency’s presence at subsequent swearing-in and closing ceremonies in the State.
Adegoke has also appealed for the resuscitation of the state subvention, which according to him is a statutory duty of the state government to the scheme as stipulated in the NYSC Act.
He further highlighted the challenges facing the scheme in the State reiterating the request earlier made to Mr Governor by his predecessor before leaving office.
While being appreciative of the present administration’s efforts, Adegoke solicited for more support for the scheme to enable it discharge its duties effectively and efficiently. He made a macedonian call to the government to assist the scheme in rehabilitating delapidating camp structures, securing a permanent secretariat, provision of adequate utility, among others. He concluded by giving His Excellency a copy of the NYSC ACT, year book and the end of service year magazine.
The visit had in attendance the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff and other state executives.
