Owu Kingdom, Belgium to Partner on Youth Empowerment, Agriculture, Education

Abeokuta – A delegation from Belgium, led by Ambassador Pieter Leenknegt, paid a courtesy visit to the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Abeokuta, Oba Prof. Saka Adelola Matemilola, at the palace on Saturday.

The delegation, which included businessmen Oscar Gillerot and Andy Lienafa of Transfood Africa Ltd, as well as Chief Genco Sanli, “Bobasanya of Ososa Kingdom” , Advisor in Economic Diplomacy to the Belgian Embassy, expressed interest in collaborating with the Owu Kingdom in various areas.

These areas include equipping youth on diplomacy and contract agreements, business interests in the agricultural sector, particularly palm oil, tertiary collaborations with institutions, and community relationships with Owu Kingdom, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Oba Matemilola, in his remarks, highlighted his vision for humanity development during his reign, focusing on empowerment, infrastructure, poverty alleviation, and self-sufficiency in agriculture.

He emphasized the kingdom’s plans to embark on large-scale agricultural projects to empower youth and create wealth, as well as facilitate overseas tertiary collaborations to advance educational skills and certification among youths.

The visit ended with the exchange of gifts between both parties, with excitement and enthusiasm for future cooperation and long-term mutual benefits.

Concrete documents outlining areas of cooperation are expected to be finalized soon.

The visit demonstrates the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships between the Owu Kingdom and international delegations.

The Olowu hosted the delegation in company of traditional chiefs.
