• Pensioners to Get N25,000 Monthly Package
The Osun State Government has approved the implementation of the new national minimum wage of ₦75,554.28 for all categories of workers, including local government employees, effective December 1, 2024.
This decision follows exhaustive negotiations between the state government and organized labour.
Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, confirmed the development in a press statement, emphasizing that the agreement reflects the administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare.
Alimi also announced an improved pension package of ₦25,000 monthly for all pensioners in the state, describing it as a gesture to address the challenges faced by senior citizens.
“These steps affirm the Adeleke administration’s commitment to its Five-Point Agenda, prioritizing the welfare of workers and pensioners,” he said.
According to the statement, the minimum wage implementation considers key factors, including revenue availability, future economic forecasts, existing debt burdens, and sustainability. In addition, one month’s arrears will be paid to workers.
The government called on public servants, including local government employees, to reciprocate the gesture with increased dedication to duty. “All public servants are enjoined to show renewed vigour and dedication to service delivery,” Alimi added.
The wage deal was signed by representatives of the government and labour unions. On the government side were Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Kazeem Akinleye; Head of Service, Elder Samuel Ayanleye Aina; Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Sola Ogungbile; and other senior officials.
Labour representatives included the NLC Chairman, Comrade Christopher Abimbola Arapasopo; TUC Chairman, Comrade Bimbo Fasansi; and JNC Chairman, Comrade Lasun Akindele.
