The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has called on its members to maintain peace and uphold high standards during the upcoming primary elections.

In a statement issued by Osun PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi, the party emphasized the importance of a peaceful and orderly process as it prepares for primaries to select candidates for local government councillor positions on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The primaries will be held across all 332 wards in the state.

Additionally, the party’s chairmanship primary election will take place on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the 30 local government headquarters.

The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has scheduled the local government elections for February 22, 2025. The PDP primaries are crucial for selecting candidates for the 30 constitutionally recognized local government council areas in the state.

Bisi urged both aspirants and their supporters to cooperate with electoral and security officials overseeing the primaries. He warned that any violence during or after the event would not be tolerated, and the State Working Committee would address it severely.

The statement read, “I urge all supporters of our party’s candidates to adhere to the law and party guidelines during the primaries. Violence has no place in our party, especially in such a constitutional exercise.”

He assured that the necessary measures have been taken to ensure a smooth process, following the directives of party leader His Excellency, Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke. Bisi expressed confidence that the primaries will yield the best candidates and lead to success in the upcoming local government elections.

He concluded by stating that any aspirant who violates the party’s guidelines, the electoral act, or the constitution will be disqualified, as the party remains committed to lawful and disciplined conduct.
