The Osun State Command of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has launched an investigation into the abduction of a five-month-old baby from a farm in Agbeye town.

The infant was left under a tree while the mother gathered firewood, but when she returned to breastfeed the baby, the child was missing.

NSCDC officials, led by Dr. Michael Adaralewa, expressed concern over a rise in child abductions in the state, noting that three similar cases involving minors have been reported between August 2 and 27.

In a previous case, a one-year-old child was kidnapped in Osunjela community, allegedly by a woman named Tawa, who was introduced to the child’s family under the pretense of learning a trade. On the same day, a three-year-old went missing in Osogbo.

The most recent incident involved the abduction of a five-month-old girl from Agbeye, whose deaf and mute parents are devastated by the loss.

The baby was taken from where she was left while her mother was working nearby.

The NSCDC has urged employers to thoroughly vet potential employees and advised parents to closely monitor their children, especially during school holidays.
