The Osun State House of Assembly has ordered the fumigation and immediate disinfection of the Assembly complex.

The assembly has also suspended plenary for a period of two weeks as part of the efforts towards combating the spread of COVID-19.

A reliable source told DAILY POST that the Assembly, last Thursday, tested all its members for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases in the state have risen in the last few weeks.

The development made the state to place a total lockdown on four Local Government Areas, DAILY POST reported.

Prince Wole Oyebamiji, the Secretary to the State Government, last Tuesday, tested positive for COVID-19 and has not recovered yet.

However, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Kunle Akande, in a press statement, said that the disinfection of the Assembly complex was a proactive step targeted at curtailing the spread of the coronavirus disease within the House.

The short recess became necessary to enable members to take a break from the rigour of long legislative activities and also assist their constituents in post-COVID-19 economic efforts geared at making their lives better.

Akande said, “The State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, in strict compliance with WHO and State Government protocols on the containment of the coronavirus, has also ordered the fumigation and immediate disinfection of the Assembly complex.

“This is a proactive step targeted at curtailing the spread of the coronavirus disease within the House of Assembly complex,” he said.

“While we underscore the importance of the legislature in a democratic setting, we’ve allowed essential administrative work and personnel to run upon disinfection of the premises.”

The House, however, advised the people of the State to consider using the recently deployed e-parliament platforms in getting across to the Assembly during the recess period.
