Opinion: When Bill to Outlaw Generating Set Passes First Reading at the plenary

Date:

Reading time: 2 Minutes

Ibrahim Yasir, Sokoto

The bill sponsored by the senator representing Niger South, senator Bima Enagi on the ban of importation and uses of generating set in Nigeria have been reportedly passed the first reading at the plenary on Wednesday– the bill which also proposed ten (10) year imprisonment for violation has left me agape.

Those that referred to our senators as rubber stamp senators not mistaking, that’s really what they are. Now I believe Nigeria is breading mentally disabled senators.

As reported that there’s an exemption in the use of generating set for ‘essential services’

According to report, the bill defined essential services to include ‘medical purposes (hospitals and nursing homes and healthcare facilities), airports and railway stations/ services’.

Also listed as essential services are elevators, escalators, research institutions and such facilities that require 24 hours electric power supply, and national assembly I supposed.

Then I don’t understand the bill if it comes with exemption. This tells that we cannot guarantee of 24/7 power supply in Nigeria still, and you deliberately want to cage Nigerians in darkness.

Our senators now have discovered why Nigerians referred to them as rubber stamp and because they don’t want us to call them ‘Bench warmer’ at the senate plenary session, they just stand and say/proposed improper and handicapped bill that will not benefits common man they are representing after waking up from few minutes nap; we watch them on the screen though.

Is anybody still importing sagem, trium, alcatel phones in Nigeria? It’s about demand and supply. If there is steady electricity, it is believe generator set will ban itself.

The law is going to enforce on common man, by the time nigerian don’t have electricity to charge their battery, power transmission sets, there would be no need for any social media bill or pass without criticism

Nigeria is a country full of mentally derained leader, sometimes I wonder what is exactly our needs. If we need to solve our power problems let us take the bull by the horn. I wish the bill will make it to the law with no exemption, and start removing all those Generators in National assembly & Villa.

This will only work out once Aso Rock, national Assembly, Nigeria elites, the big so-called business men don’t have generators in their estate’s etc, with no exempt on this, Nigeria power sectors would be fixed within 3 months.

Better time for Nigerian to know that this people are not representing common man but their selfish interest.

Lead us well in your position
