The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has honoured a foremost human rights lawyer in Ogun State, Mr Habeeb Whyte and several other Nigerian youth leaders as Royal Ambassadors in an event which was held on the 17th January, 2020 at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State.
The monarch, under the aegis of his Royal African Young Leadership Forum (RAYLF), an initiative created to celebrate exceptional Nigerian youths, also inducted Whyte and other royal ambassadors into his Royal Court.
Habeeb Whyte, who is currently the Legal Adviser, Ogun State Police Community Relations Committee and the youngest executive member in the history of the state, was honoured alongside the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Seun Fakorede; Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin; Ambassador Abiodun Sowemimo; Mrs. Ukinebo Omorowa Dare; Ubi Franklin and Adaora Mbelu.
The awardees also included Funke Adesiyan; Habeeb Okunola; Oluwaseyi Awolowo; Bello Shagari; Seyi Olofinjana; David Adeleke (Davido); Kehinde Peter Otolorin (Kenny Blaq); Lateef Adedimeji among others.
Whyte who was honoured with ‘Leadership and Governance Award’ in recognition of his sterling contributions to governance, as well as his advocacy on youth participation in politics.
The Ooni congratulated the young human rights lawyer on the award, while urging him to “continue to be one of the voices of the young population in the country by doing things differently, rightly and outstandingly”.
In his reaction, shortly after he was presented with the award by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, Whyte dedicated the honour to Nigeria youths, particularly those in Ogun State.
He pledged to relentlessly continue his advocacy on good governance and leadership in Nigeria.
