A multiple accident involving a loaded cement truck, Mazda bus and Volvo truck at Talabi Village, along President Muhammadu Buhari Expressway (Abeokuta-Sagamu), Abeokuta on Wednesday took the life of a woman, leaving 23 others injured.
Spokesman of the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the incident to Tropic Reporters correspondent, said the accident was caused by excessive speeding resulting to loss of control on the part of the loaded cement truck according to police preliminary report.
He said survivors were taken to State Hospital, Ijaiye and Joseph & Christiana Hospital Oke ilewo, while the corpse of the confirmed dead victim has been deposited at the state hospital morgue, Ijaiye.
“According to eyewitness account, the driver of the Dangote truck, moving outbound Abeokuta towards Sagamu Interchange, lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed and ran into the Volvo truck and Mazda bus from behind, resulting in pandemonium which resulted into multiple crash.
“Number of occupants in the vehicles were 24(6 male adults, 18 female adults).”
Vehicles involved are; A Loaded Cement Truck with reg num: RAN 731 XA, Mazda Bus, yellow colour with reg. Number AGL 589 YA, Volvo Truck, Blue color with reg. Number LSR 765 XV, Rescue team TRACE, OGSAS, FRSC and Police.
“The Cause of RTA is excessive speeding and loss of control on the part of the loaded cement truck according Police preliminary report and the number of occupant 24 (6 male adults, 18 female adults), while No 24 were injured including 6male, 18 female and one death.
“The injured were rescued to State Hospital, Ijaiye and Joseph&Christiana Hospital, Okelewo, Abeokuta by TRACE”
“One of the victims was confirmed dead at State Hospital, Ijaiye and the body was deposited at State Hospital Morgue, Ijaiye, while OGSAS and FRSC were contacted for back up in rescuing the victims”.
“The remaining of the injured were taken to Sagamu for proper medical treatment by their relatives, while the Police were contacted for further investigation”, he said.
While commiserating with family of the deceased and injured, Akinbiyi however warned motorists to desist from over speeding and reckless driving to prevent crashes.
