One Burnt To Death In Kwara Fuel Tanker Accident

One person was burnt to death in a fuel tanker accident that occurred on Monday along Bode Saadu-Jebba express road in Kwara State.

Five vehicles were also destroyed by the fire.

The crash, which occurred at 8:23 am involved four trailers loaded with different variety of goods and a petrol tanker that had a head-on collision as a result of overspeeding and brake failure.

Both the state’s fire service and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident to Daily Trust.

Sector Commander of the FRSC, Jonathan Owoade, said: “This morning, our attention was called to a multiple Road Traffic Crash (RTC) involving a tanker and a trailer at Olola area, along Bode Saadu-Ilorin road axis.

“The crash which was a fatal one occurred at about 8:23 am. Both vehicles were burnt beyond repair.

“Four persons were involved and sadly one of them got burnt and lost his life, others were unhurt”, he said.

Owoade said that there were no items recovered while efforts have been made by the FRSC officials to control traffic and clear the obstruction caused by the crash.

Owoade however advised motorist to ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before embarking on journeys and cautioned drivers on overspeeding and wrong overtaking, adding that the best driver was one who reached his destination safely.

Also, Head of Media and Publicity of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, said: “The accident was a head-on collision that resulted in the fire outbreak which involved five heavy vehicles; four trailers filled with a variety of goods, and a petrol tanker,” he added.
