• Dissatisfied Candidates Should Seek Legal Redress, Tinubu Advises

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on his victory in Saturday’s Ondo State governorship election.

The President also praised the peaceful conduct of the polls, which he attributed to the maturity displayed by all candidates.

In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Aiyedatiwa as the winner, Tinubu commended the candidates from all 17 political parties for demonstrating civility and a sense of purpose during the campaigns and the election.

“The orderly conduct witnessed during the Ondo election is a reflection of the progress being made in Nigeria’s democratic process. I urge all political actors to extend this maturity into the post-election period,” Tinubu stated.

The President described the election as a significant test of INEC’s capacity, noting that the commission performed admirably. “INEC justified the confidence of Nigerians with its early preparations, efficient deployment of staff and materials, and the smooth conduct of the process. The timely upload of over 98% of results on the same day is a commendable achievement,” Tinubu added.

Acknowledging the role of security agencies, Tinubu praised the Nigerian Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the military, and other security outfits for maintaining peace and professionalism during the election.

The President urged candidates dissatisfied with the results to seek redress through the judicial system. “Those who feel aggrieved by the outcome should embrace the legal avenues available to resolve disputes rather than resorting to actions that could undermine the peace we have witnessed,” Tinubu advised.
