Ondo State Governor, Honourable Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has given his approval for the payment of bursaries and scholarships to students of Ondo State origin in tertiary institutions and Nigerian Law Schools.
The Governor made this announcement while addressing a meeting of student stakeholders at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office in Akure, the state capital.
The meeting was attended by leaders of various student associations, including the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Association of University Students (NAUS), National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), National Female Students Association, and indigenous student associations in the state.
In response to requests made by the student leaders, Governor Aiyedatiwa stated that the process for the payment of bursaries and scholarships had commenced and would be completed within a few weeks, after which disbursement would begin.
The Governor also addressed other issues raised by the student leaders, including the provision of buses for student bodies, enhancement of electricity supply and security on campuses, employment opportunities, and polling units on campuses.
He assured the students that his administration would continue to prioritize the education sector and the welfare of students and youths.
Governor Aiyedatiwa commended the students for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner and promised to consider their other requests with a view to addressing them in the shortest possible time.
Earlier, the student leaders, including the President of NAOSS, Hammed Oyelade, and representatives of NANS, NAUS, and Student Union Governments from tertiary institutions in the state, pledged their support for Governor Aiyedatiwa.
They also assured that students in Ondo State would not participate in the planned August 1 protests in the state.
