Bayo Onanuga, the spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, has firmly asserted that the President is acutely aware of the challenges faced by Nigerians.
This statement comes in response to criticisms that portray Tinubu as indifferent to the hardships citizens are experiencing. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Onanuga emphasized that the President is dedicated to revitalizing Nigeria’s economy and addressing the concerns of the populace.
Onanuga dismissed the derogatory social media nicknames, including “T-pain,” labeling such remarks as mischievous. “President Tinubu feels the pain of Nigerians and assures them that relief is on the horizon,” he stated, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to implementing reforms that will ultimately benefit the nation.
In light of ongoing critiques regarding Tinubu’s economic policies—particularly the removal of petrol subsidies and foreign exchange unification—Onanuga defended these measures.
He maintained, “The President has never shied away from acknowledging that Nigerians are going through difficult times. He is working tirelessly to provide relief and ensure that the nation moves towards a future of prosperity.”
He reiterated that these policies are part of a broader strategy aimed at “repairing the economy” rather than exacerbating the difficulties faced by citizens.
Despite rising costs for food, fuel, and other essentials fueling widespread frustration, Onanuga pointed to signs of economic growth and increased revenues as indicators of a more promising economic future.
He remarked, “This is a painful transition, but it’s part of a long-term strategy to stabilize and grow the economy.”
As protests against the government’s economic policies continue—particularly among the middle class—Onanuga affirmed that the administration remains resolute, viewing these reforms as essential steps toward sustainable development.
