Omirin Seeks Multi- Sectoral Approach To Combat Drug Abuse

A call has gone to traditional rulers, religious and community leaders to support in the fight against drug abuse in their various spheres of influence.

The Head of Psychiatric Nursing, Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Mrs Taiwo Omirin, made this call on Thursday, while speaking on the topic, “Combating Drug Abuse: A Collective Responsibility”, to mark the 7th award ceremony of Medalinks, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

She charged parents and other stakeholders to rise up to the challenge of ensuring that illicit substances are kept away from young Nigerians, warning that complacency is capable of compromising the bright future ahead of the youth population.

“This intervention and campaign from relevant stakeholders is expected to curb the stream of drug abuse in the society”.

“It is time for us as parents to give our children proper education and sensitization about health and drug abuse”.

Omirin, however called on relevant government agencies and stakeholders to ensure rehabilitation of drug addicts into the society to combat stigma and discrimination.

“Many people who abuse drugs could further harm their physical and mental health if not properly reintegrated back into the society through necessary help they needed”, she added.

In his welcome address, the Publisher of Medalinks News, Omooba Taiwo Tiamiyu, the event was to celebrate personalities who have contributed immensely to the development of the country through their chosen professions.

He further said that the awardees were critically selected by the award committee after meeting its requirements.

He said, “I am delighted to extend warm greetings to everyone at this esteemed awards presentation to honour and celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments of those who have continued to have significant impact in the nation through their chosen professions”.

“These awards serve as a reminder that a shared commitment to excellence and perseverance can result in success at the very top, whether we are honoring people who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the nation or those who have made significant contributions to their profession”.

He thereafter called on the awardees to continue to strive and apply all that have earned them the award for the growth and development of the nation and humanity.

The recipients of the award include; Aare Adeola Emmanuel King (CEO, Adron Homes and Properties), Alh Ibrahim Olaniyan (PCRC National Chairman), Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat (Chief Executive Officer, Agidigbo FM), Commander (Dr) Soji Ganzallo (Ogun State So-safe Corps State Commander), Alhaji Isiaka Kokumo (CEO, Wise fm. Ogun State)

Others include; Comrade Akeem Ambali (Nulge National President), Dr Kehinde Oluwasanmi (Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta), Alh Samusideen Apelogun
(Accomoran National President), Mrs Ibiba Odili (Ogun State NDLEA Commander), Pastor Ajibola Oluwatoyin Joseph (Neurochariatic Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta), and CSC Aliyu Maiwada
(National PRO, Nigeria Custom Services).
