Olowu of Owu Palace Partners with Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation to Combat Substance Abuse

The Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation has formalized a partnership with the Olowu of Owu Palace and the Solace Foundation to combat substance abuse in communities.

On August 12, 2024, Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, President of the Foundation, led a visit to His Royal Majesty, Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, FNSE, OTILETA VII, to announce the collaboration.

Oba Matemilola commended the Foundation’s work, saying, “I am pleased to endorse this partnership, which aligns with our Palace’s initiative to address substance abuse”.

“We recognize the devastating impact of substance abuse on our youth and communities, and we are committed to taking action.”

While speaking, Chief Isola Akinsipo, the Akogun of Owu, welcomed the Foundation’s initiative, reiterating the Palace’s commitment to the cause.

He said: “The Olowu has a vested interest in this issue, and we will work together to address it. We will mobilize our community leaders and resources to support this initiative.”

On his part, The President of Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab expressed gratitude to Oba Matemilola for his support, stating, “We are honored to work with the Palace and the Solace Foundation to create a safer, healthier community”

“Our Foundation has been actively working to prevent substance abuse, and this partnership will amplify our impact.”

Similarly, Olori Ameenah Adeleye Matemilola, the Executive Director of Solace Substance Abuse and Mental Health Advocacy initiative, expressed her joy in receiving the Foundation team.

“We commit to partnering with the Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation to make a positive impact. Our initiative has been working to address the root causes of substance abuse, and this partnership will enhance our efforts.”

The partnership will focus on community-based initiatives, awareness campaigns, education, and advocacy to address the root causes of substance abuse. Both parties agreed to work together to identify and address these root causes, involving other stakeholders as needed.

A youth-focused program is planned to prevent substance misuse within the Owu Kingdom. This initiative will serve as a key performance indicator of the partnership’s success.

The collaboration will also involve working with community leaders, healthcare professionals, and law enforcement agencies to ensure a comprehensive approach to addressing substance abuse.

By working together, the Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, the Olowu of Owu Palace, and the Solace Foundation aim to create a drug-free society and improve the well-being of individuals and communities.

This partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration and community engagement in addressing critical social issues. The Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, the Olowu of Owu Palace, and the Solace Foundation are committed to making a positive impact and creating a safer, healthier community.
