Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), has issued a stern warning to Simon Ekpa, a controversial figure advocating for Biafra, to cease using her name to propagate false information.
In a now-deleted post on X, Ekpa claimed that both the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had reached an agreement to provide a $57.5 billion loan to the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE). He also alleged that Dr. Okonjo-Iweala played a role in facilitating this supposed loan.
“The World Bank and IMF have agreed to loan the sum of $57.5 billion to Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) to form our government after the December 2, 2024, declaration of Biafra. I thank our sister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for helping me to facilitate the loan,” he wrote in his post.
In response, the WTO Director-General swiftly refuted the claims made in the tweet. She urged individuals attempting to misuse her name for their agendas to refrain from doing so.
“I know no sensible person will believe what is contained in the outrageous tweet below, but in these troubled times, it is important to underscore that the statement is false. Again, I enjoin all those seeking to misuse my name to desist!” she stated on X.
