ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Commander, Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Nureni Adedoyin on Friday disclosed that the arrested suspects in the alleged killing of an undergraduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University are not personnel of Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
Adedoyin said the suspects belong to the So-Safe Corps and not Vigilante as reported in the news.
The VGN Commander made this known in a statement issued through the group’s Public Relations Officers, Omotolani Adebodun enjoined the general public to understand that as much as any one could be called Vigilante, there is only one authentic group – duly registered to curb crime by supporting the efforts of Nigeria Police and other government security apparatus in the country – called Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
The VGN commander affirmed that men under his watch are law-abiding citizens who have proved their integrity to the mission of the group over the years.
“The VGN want to use this medium to falsify the publication as those paraded are members of the SO SAFE CORPS and not VGN.
“It is worthy of note that VGN personnels are law abiding citizens and have been severally trained and retrained to protect lives and properties of the citizens and not the other way round.
“The command also reteirate that as a community based security agency, it will continue to ensure the adequate protection of lives and properties of the good people of Ogun state and work hands in gloves with other agencies to nib crime in the bud.”
Adedoyin commended the State’s Commissioner of Police, for his superb efficiency in fighting insecurity in the entire state and supporting the activities of Vigilante.
“Sincerely, I have to thank the CP for his relentless efforts at curbing the crime rate in Ogun state and for so much support that Vigilante has been enjoying from him”, Adedoyin stated.
