Ogun State NULGE Gets New Leadership

… Demands ‘Absolute’ Autonomy For Local Governments

The Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Employees (NULGE), has sworn – in a new set of executives to lead the union for the next four years.

The swearing in which took place at the union secretariat, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Tuesday, saw the emergence of Comrade Adebayo Adefesobi – Oluomo as the newly elected President, following the tenure expiration of Alhaji Olatunji Akanji – Ayuba.

The swearing in which was preceded by the election in which delegates from all the local government councils in the State voted for candidates of their choice, during its 8th Quadrennial State Delegates’ Conference held on Thursday 27th April, 2023 at the NLC Secretariat, Abeokuta Ogun State.

In his acceptance speech, the newly sworn – in President, Comrade Adebayo Adefesobi – Oluomo, expressed gratitude to all who cast their votes in his favor, promising not to betray the trust reposed in him.

He promised to prioritize the welfare of members and to move the union to greater and enviable heights through hard work, prudence and discipline.

He said, “it is a rare opportunity only made possible by the Almighty God, collimating in our success was a very toughly rough road travelled to reach this point in the history of our dear union”.

“We therefore want to thank Almighty God who has made today possible and also show our deep appreciation to those within the Union that worked tirelessly within the past years to ensure that we navigate all the difficulties to stabilize the Union”.

“At this juncture, I hereby congratulate the newly elected Members of the state Administrative Council and appreciate the immediate Past Officers for doing the best they could possibly do within the period of their tenure”.

“On our part, we promise to strive to move the Union to greater and enviable heights through hard work, prudence and discipline and we’ll be committed to resolutely pursue the interest and desires of all NULGE members”, he added.

On his part, NULGE National President, Comrade Akeem Olatunji Ambali, commended the immediate past executives of the union for living up to the expectations of their members, urged the new executives to follow suit in discharge of their responsibilities.

Comrade Ambali however reinstated the importance of financial and administrative autonomy to the third tier of government that will be of benefit to Nigerians.

He called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure full implementation of local government autonomy in the country to influence grassroots development.

Also speaking at the epoch making event, the now former President, Comrade Olatunji Akanji Ayuba, expressed his profound appreciation to the members of the union for the support he enjoyed during his tenure.

Others who emerged include, Comrade Solomon Adewale Oyekan (Deputy President), Comrade Oluwatobi Odunayo Oriyomi (State Chairperson), Comrade Idowu Olufemi Israel (State Treasurer), Comrade Onayemi Dauda (State Auditor), Comrade Abioye Adenike Pius (State Auditor), Comrade Ali Wasiu (State Trustee), Comrade Akiode Fatai Feyisayo (State Trustee), Comrade Bajela Olusoji Solomon (State Publicity Secretary), Ibukun Oluwole Olawunmi (State Welfare) and Shode Sakiru Olamilekan (State Young Worker).

Some of the National and State officers who were present include, Comrade Ayodele Ajewole (Deputy General Secretary), Comrade Babalola Abimbola (National Vice), Comrade Oluga Rasheedat (National Welfare), Comrade Bello Hakeem (National Auditor), Comrade Babalola Adeyemi Rufus (National Young Worker), Comrade Bola Taiwo (Ondo State President), Comrade Ayobami Adeogun (Oyo State President), Comrade Oluwaseyi Olatunde (Ekiti State President) and Comrade Ogunfowora Sunday (Lagos State President).

Also in attendance were Ogun State NULGE Former Presidents, Dr. Niyi Osoba, Alhaji Mufutau Darieso, Comrade Elegede and Alhaji Olusesi Tajudeen, among other important dignitaries.
