A shocking incident has unfolded in Temidire community, Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State, where a landlord, Bola Abiodun, and her husband, Sunday, have fled their home after allegedly disposing of their tenant’s body in a nearby canal.

According to police reports, the tenant, Iya Ibukun, was involved in a hit-and-run accident on May 5 and succumbed to her injuries a few days later. Instead of reporting the incident, the landlord and her husband allegedly conspired to dump the body in the canal, sparking outrage and fear among residents.

“There was an accident; a hit-and-run driver allegedly knocked the tenant down. She didn’t go to the hospital and started treating herself at home. She died a few days after the incident. The landlady and her husband conspired to dump the body in a canal,” said a police source.

The police have launched a manhunt for the absconded couple, who are suspected of involvement in the alleged crime. “We are working tirelessly to recover the body and bring the perpetrators to justice,” said Omolola Odutola, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer.

In a similar incident a few years ago, the erstwhile spokesperson for the command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said, “A landlord, Sunday Omosule, was arrested for allegedly killing his tenant’s four-year-old son with a pestle in Onipanu, Ota, Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State following a distress call to the police at the Onipanu division.” During interrogation, Oyeyemi said the victim claimed to be under spiritual attack.

This disturbing incident has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of tenants in the state, with many calling for increased protection and accountability for landlords.

As the investigation continues, residents are left grappling with the disturbing question: what happened to Iya Ibukun, and why did her landlords allegedly resort to such a heinous act?
