The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Ogun State Branch, has expressed its heartfelt appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun for the recent wage increase of N20,000 granted to all categories of its members.
In a letter titled “New Wage Increase to Ogun Pensioners: Expression of Gratitude,” the Union’s leadership commended the governor for his ongoing kindness and consideration toward state retirees.
The letter, signed by State Chairman Comrade Waidi Oloyede, Secretary Comrade Bola Lawal, and State Treasurer Comrade O. Ogabi, highlighted that the state government has commenced the payment of this wage increase starting from October 2024.
This increase marks the first adjustment in pension wages in 16 years, a significant change considering that no prior increases had been made to address the needs of pensioners.
The Union noted, “Your Excellency, we cannot but recognize the many lofty gestures accorded to us by your amazing administration. These include prompt and regular payment of monthly pensions, steady release of accrued gratuities, and the financial gestures to cushion the effects of the removal of the fuel subsidy, among others.”
In their letter, the Union expressed deep gratitude for the sincerity, love, and support demonstrated by the Abiodun administration toward the elderly.
“The executive and the entire body of Ogun State Pensioners immensely appreciate your sincerity of purpose, your love, friendliness, and Godliness towards us, the elderly. Thank you so much, sir,” it stated.
However, the Union also urged the governor to consider a consequential review of pensions for long-standing retirees, in accordance with the Federal Government Circular on the Consequential Adjustment of Pensions for those who retired before the implementation of the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2019.
