Some aspirants reportedly to have emerged candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Ogun State, have said that they will have no option but to go to court if the party failed to act according to the results that was obtained from the primary.
The candidates, Dada Oduntan, emerged as the candidate for the Ogun Central Senatorial District, Akeem Amosun for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency and Olawale Soyode for Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency
Others are Samuel Abiodun, who emerged for Abeokuta North/Obafemi Owode/Odeda Federal Constituency, Olanrewaju Enilolobo for Abeokuta South 1 Constituency, Surajudeen Adeyemi, Abeokuta South II and Makanjuola Daniel of Ewekoro State Constituency.
The seven PDP candidates who made this disclosure at a press briefing held in Abeokuta on Tuesday were reportedly to have emerged at the Sunday and Monday’s primaries into Ogun State House of Assembly and National Assembly under the platform of the Party.
The candidates raised an alarm that some leaders and cabals in the party have perfected plans to impose some candidates on them by substituting their names ahead of the 2023 elections.
The candidates stated further that some leaders within the party are planning to impose some aspirants on them through kangaroo primaries in some constituencies across the state.
While speaking on behalf of other candidates, Amosun pointed out that the primary elections which certified their authentic candidacy were carried out at the designated venues approved by the party.
Amosun reiterated that the exercises were duly supervised and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electorial Commission (INEC), security operatives such as Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as officers of the Directorate of State Services (DSS).
Amosun added that they would resist any attempt to substitute their names as they are the authentic candidates elected at the authentic venues.
He said, “we shall not hesitate to go to court, if the party failed to double-check and act accordingly to the results obtained from the authentic primaries as against those parading themselves in some quarters of the media as candidates”.
“We are only using this channel to show our grievances and to alert the National Secretariat of the party about the illegalities happening in the state”.
