The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Ogun State Chapter has cried out for Justice on behalf of one its members, Adeyemi Rashidat who was assaulted and subsequently battered by Dr. Adeola Olowu of General Hospital, Ayetoro.

According to a statement by NANNM State Chairperson, Nurse Funmilayo Roseline Solarin and obtained by our correspondent on Monday has it that Dr. Olowu got angry when he was called upon around 4am on Saturday 8th January, 2022 to attend to an emergency at the hospital.

Nurse Solarin said, “He was reported to have gotten angry and became aggressive when he was called at about 4am on. Saturday 8th of January to attend to a patient who was rushed in for care. In a fit of aggression, he was reported to have slapped Nurse Adeyemi repeatedly, pushed her against the wall which caused her to sustain injuries on the head and face before she was rescued by patient’s relative”.

“Dr. Olowu claimed that she was disturbing him with what she should have handled”.

“It is a printed fact that such a barbaric and irresponsible behavior is against public service rules and contravenes nobility”.

We therefore demand that Justice be served by appropriate quarters to guide against any future occurrences”.

“In a recent development, the Nursing workforce of the hospital has been withdrawn by the Association when it was noticed that nothing was done about the issue and that the said doctor is still walking around freely without feeling sober while our nurses are full of fear and insecurity”.

“We say no to barbaric and inhumane behavior. We demand immediate posting of the said doctor out of the facility for safe health delivery and security of our nurses”, she concluded.
