The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, has expressed deep concern over the sudden fuel scarcity that has crippled socio-economic activities and caused untold hardship for Nigerians.

The union has called on relevant authorities to urgently address the situation, which has led to an astronomical surge in transport fares and exacerbated the already difficult living conditions for citizens.

The fuel scarcity has caused logistics hurdles in transporting the product, resulting in a peculiar and threatening situation in Ogun State, where schools have just resumed for the third term. Parents are struggling to cope with the situation, and students are forced to trek long distances to school due to the unavailability of fuel.

The union has called for a quick fix solution to bail Nigerians out of the current quagmire, emphasizing that the time for rescue is now. The situation is dire, with a liter of petrol selling for as high as #1,000 in Abeokuta metropolis, and taxi fares skyrocketing from #200 to #500.

The NUJ urges the government at all levels to take immediate action to address the fuel scarcity and put a smile back on the faces of Nigerians who are looking up to them for succor.
