As Federal Government through the Central Bank Of Nigeria has commenced the distribution of the New Naira notes to its branches across the country.
The State Director, National Orientation Agency, Ogun State Directorate, Mr. Christopher Kolawole Obadina, has said the newly redesigned Naira notes will help to grow the nation’s dwindling economy, urging members of the public to embrace it.
Obadina made this known when he featured as a guest on Oodua 99.9fm Abeokuta Current Affairs Yoruba Programme, “Sekitariati Arailu”, on Monday in Abeokuta.
He said the new notes will circulate side-by-side with the old notes until January 31, 2023, when the latter would cease to be legal tender.
Mr. Obadina said the redesigned series of 200, 500 and 1000 Naira bank notes are now in use charging Nigerians to accept them, spend them and handle them with care. He frowned at reports of its rejection by some Nigerians, especially, market sellers and warned that it’s a criminal offence for anyone not to accept it.
The State Director explained the rationale for the redesigned new naira notes and its features in order to be distinguished from fake one being circulated.
While assuring the public of that the Agency will continue to sensitize the public concerning the new Naira notes, Mr. Obadina charged Nigerians to see the redesigned new Naira notes as a developmental process geared towards the growth of the economy.
